In 2022 I’ve watched stuff, here’s some of that, ordered by my own taste in the moment I wrote this:

i. LA VITA AGRA

basically Fight Club’s second watch plot (the one about an anarchist against big corporates) but realistic. in the end we all adapt to what we are supposed to. hopefully still critical. still frustrated. funny how the beggining of the end is when he applies for a loan to buy an apartment. so real. so sad.

ii. BUFFALO ’66

iii. EVANGELION 3.0+1.0 THRICE UPON A TIME

i didn’t want to watch the rebuild movie series because i thought it would ruin evangelion for me. thrice upon a time is the third time i cried watching an evangelion finale. 3/3. this time was different. he is happy. and i’m happy for him.

iv. HOUSE

it’s about an evil cat. but also about not wanting to be alone? maybe. or maybe it’s just a special effects experiment. the main theme is so simple. so repetitive. greato.

v. WALKABOUT

she used him. it’s a methaphor and it all happened. it’s happening.

vi. ATLANTA SEASON 3 and 4 + A GOOFY MOVIE

who dressed that kid like aloe blacc?

vii. THE CONVERSATION

my favourite francis ford coppola movie. i said it. the pace. the sounds. the mechanics of every object. the emptiness of solitude filled by observation of others.

viii. ENNIO

it’s just a documentary. but damn. maestro.

ix. HIGH AND LOW

the fact that the protagonist is considered an hero just because accepted to give up money in exchange of a child’s life tells a lot about mankind. once you accept that low bar…

x. NOPE

my headcanon is that the alien is an angel. it must be. it’s so beautiful. wouldn’t mind be eaten by it. i’ve seen it 3 times in the movies.

xi. THE BOONDOCKS

it’s so not gay. except the last season. ps: calling someone “uncle ruckus” is the ultimate insult.

xii. MYSTERIOUS SKIN

xiii. NOWHERE + TOTALLY FUCKED UP

after watching mysterious skin i needed to see more by gregg araki. glad i did. it’s like queer and nihilst and anti-nihilism and depressing and teen drama (but good teen drama, like twin peaks, not like a generic netflix show) and feeling-like-the-end-of-the-world-is-near-and-i-feel-relieved and in-love-with-the-absurd-idea-of-love.

xiv. LOVERS ROCK

it’s just footage of a party i haven’t been invited to. the dj picked a great playlist.

i thought he didn’t go to college. he has a bachelor degree and his biggest worry is that he lied about having a master degree?? not hating but fix that hairline instead. also the kid is so sweet. and i have no idea why there aren’t more shows like this. “like this” meaning original.

disliked every moral promoted by this short film. nonetheless visually pleasing. art not artsy.
